| Less frequent motor vehicle inspections for passenger vehicles and light trucks is one of the changes to the inspection program announced Thursday by Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations Minister Richard Hurlburt, who is also the MLA for Yarmouth.
The changes will be phased-in over two stages, the first on April 1 and the rest on June 1. Effective April 1, new vehicles that have had a dealer pre-delivery inspection will not require an inspection for the first three years. Other passenger vehicles will require an inspection every two years.
Vehicle owners with valid inspection stickers will be able to get a second opinion if their vehicle fails an inspection. It will also be easier to have complaints reviewed by government.
Effective June 1, there will be a reduction in the number of the number of elements inspected after an initial inspection. Hurlburt says the changes reduce the burden on vehicle owners without compromising road safety or consumer protection

| This is good and bad. The obvious good reason of being that you dont need get an inspection every year. The bad is that your not getting you car looked over every year which is putting more wear and tear on the car which could make your repair bill more expensive every second year. For brand new cars its not such a big deal. | |

| agreed there. like sure some guys in life check their cars over dialy to see if everythings up to snuff but the average dude doesnt do that sooo... this can make the roads more dangerous for guys like us if theres people out there with a brake line ready to burst! not like it doesnt happen already but the cahnces are that much higher.. | |

| I don't think it's going to be harder on us at all honestly. I keep my cars in good working order and I've never had trouble getting a sticker at inspection time.
There are several things that will actually make it easier on tuners. They're not checking lights anymore, which means even the pickiest of inspection stations isn't going to fail you for non-DOT approved lights. They're also not checking windshield wipers (monowiper anyone?) or mirrors, which means anyone with aftermarket (M3?) or even shaved mirrors will pass.
There never was any mention of suspension mods in the previous inspection station manual, it only said that "the suspension cannot be modified to the extent that it affects the proper steering of the vehicle."
These new laws don't really affect our cars, it will affect old beaters that are barely legal to be on the road and those are the types of cars you will see pulled over for roadside spot-checks.
