| took a new 09 matrix xr with the 2.4 and i have to say i was very impressed its torquy and got some power but one thing i was unimpressed was the electric power assist power steering theres like no feedback at all its like driving on ice and you dont feel anything but it turns. they are gonna let me know when a 1.8 base model coms in so i can compare the two | |

| Yeah I agree with you on the electric steering, I have driven three cars with them, all Hyundais. I'm not a really big fan of it because I like going around a turn with some speed and having to fight the wheel, not easily be able to turn it. | |

| I drove a MKV GTI with electric steering and it felt really great.
Matrix's are so ugly though, why did you even bother test driving it?

| I drove a 07 Matrix, i didnt mind the interior but exteriour wasnt all that great. Acceleration performance wasnt too good either, but not like a matrix was built for speed performance. | |

| I'd have an AWD Matrix if only it came with a 6 spped manual.... they are great in the snow, but severely limited by the 4 speed auto. old ones were even worse with the 1.8 litre engine which sucks balls.
My mom has owned 2 of them, an 03 and an 05, both were rock solid. She's looking at replacing the 05 with an 09, 2.4, AWD XR package b

I bet you anything there won't be. Manuals are getting harder to find, not the other way around.

| Because newer automatic transmissions are actually getting better on fuel than manuals. | |

A lot of them have that tip-tronic option too though...

well in manual some people ride the red line everytime before they shift so i can see how some autos would be better in cases like that.

| Most people just aren't exposed to manual transmissions like most of us were when we learned to drive, like my mom who is 45 and has never driven a manual.
Manual transmissions will always be seen as something to aspire to. But more and more cars are being sold with Tiptronic and DSG transmissions that let the owner believe that in some ways they still drive a manual. It's hilarious reading all of the "My DSG is a manual" threads on the Vortex of people who won't give up arguing that their cars are closer to being an automatic in the way that they function than a manual.
So, the more previous manual drivers that switch to these DSG / Tiptronic cars, the less manual transmission cars they'll produce.

| Yeah i agree alot more people are just being exposed to auto's, and even if they learn how to drive a standard they are still to intimidated by it to do their road test in one. Lucky for me my parents owned standard cars so its the only thing i ever drove, then when i did my road test i took the standard and did fine. I agree it is pretty funny when people will agrue their automatic is a standard because of the tiptronic. | |

Believe it or not....an automagic is actually viewed as a luxury option. Less work for the owner. They can just sit back and drive. A comfort item so-to-speak....like having a remote for TV's.....whereas back in the day you had to walk to the TV and turn the knob to change channels....now it's more convenient to sit on one's ass and use the remote.....hence come about the term "couch potato". No different for cars...but since more women are driving....it's easier for them to drive an auto rather then to work a stick. No offense to you girls out there....but some of them can't figure it out.
