SMG's 2000 Beetle 2.0T

Ok guys, not sure why I haven't made a thread on here about my car so here goes.

Most of you guys have probably seen the car around town. I've owned it for almost 5 years since I was in highschool and it's been a constant project since then. In 2007 I put a supercharger kit on the car which made it a lot of fun around town but still lacked on the highway. The 1.8T boys could own me easily and I wanted to be able to easily keep up on cruises. More on that later.

The factory cyber green paint is notorious for fading to a really gross mint green colour and since my car always lived outdoors the paint had faded pretty badly. I always took really good care of the paint and if it not been faded it would have only needed a good wetsand and buff and it would have been showroom again.



Anyway, the car was due to go for paint in April 2008 and in August Freddy was finally ready for the car. He's notoriously slow and the car before mine somehow took 6 months longer than he'd planned.

So the car seemed to be coming along really, really well. And then something happened... I'm not sure what. Maybe Fred got bored? No progress was made until 6 weeks later when I came home and something had finally been done.

Meanwhile.. The turbo kit arrived on October 22.




On November 7th I made a trip back to Yarmouth and I just about shit my pants when I saw my car outside almost finished.











I made another trip home on the 17th and it was finally ready. After a quick trip to RJ's to swap wheels and re-lower the car it was finally looking finished. I was stoked.








I drove the car 3 times total. On November 23rd I drove the car up to the city and the next day it snowed, the roads were salted and that was it. So yeah, that was hard. But, to ease my pain, toys started showing up in the mail.





The wheels were damaged in storage and needed to be refinished. The faces were machined and the cutouts were colour matched to the OEM Audi centercaps and then re-cleared with the glossiest clearcoat I've ever seen.



I stopped taking pictures for a while, but I had the block built at Armstrong's in the valley which was a huge ordeal. The first block was rejected for being too worn so I had a 1.8T block bored to a 2.0L. The crank and rods were balanced and everything was assembled by (IMO) the best engine builders in the Maritimes. Aside from the rejected engine and a bunch of missing and wrong parts it went really well. I delivered the car and engine to Dan on March 25th and he's been at it since. It's been a bit of a slow process since he's going through some personal issues at home but he's been plugging away at it when he has time.

I went out to visit him today and I took some pics of the progress.







So I'm looking very forward to finally enjoying the car this summer. It's been a really long process but I think it will be worth it in the end. The car should be putting down 250whp by early May.

One query though...this is a build thread bub...post it up from day one and the wheels in between man. The SC build. Lowering springs to coils. We want MOAR!!!

Did you ever find out what kind of clutch Harringtons put in your car? Apparently Sachs isn't the only clutch supplier for VW, Luk also manufacturers OEM VR6 clutches
